Interest Groups for Students
Kansas City is fortunate to have three medical school: University of Missouri-Kansas City SOM, University of Kansas SOM and Kansas City University COM. With respective enrollments of 461, 876 and 1224 students across all years, there are surely medical students who might be interested in palliative care issues, whether it is shared decision-making, symptom control, ethics, pediatrics, critical care, geriatrics, medical communication or some other area of medicine.
As of May 2024, there are student groups focused on palliative medicine at both KU and UMKC! We currently have over 15 learner members in KCSPM.
The 2024 KU Student interest group president is Allison Lehman - alehman@kumc.edu
The 2024 UMKC Student interest group (Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine) president is Evelyn Peng - eyp8ff@umkc.edu
We are always eager to find medical students and residents who are interested in joining such a group in the Kansas City area. We have KCSPM members who are faculty at all three schools and are willing to help support this endeavor.
If you are a medical student and are interested in associating with these efforts, please sign up to be a member of KCSPM today so we can be in touch. Learners have fees waived! Also medical students and residents can join the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) free.
