Criteria for the ANN ALLEGRE AWARD
Nominees have demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities in the fields of hospice and palliative care locally, regionally or nationally. Nominees may are not limited to physicians and an organization as a whole is also eligible for the award. The nominees may come from anywhere in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Nominations are due by December 31st of each year, and are awarded in the Spring of the following year. The current Board of Directors will determine the award winner from nominations presented. History of the ANN ALLEGRE AWARD
To many in the Kansas City area, Dr. Ann Allegre, is the person that inspired them to go into hospice or palliative care, or to be a better clinician than they ever thought they could be. She is best known for her remarkable communication skills, her kindness and wisdom in guiding patients, families and clinicians, in addition to her holistic and spiritual approach to her clinical work.
Dr. Allegre served as Director of Medical Programs for Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care from 1999 to 2016 and Medical Director of the Palliative Care Consult Service for Providence Health from 2000-2006. She was the first Fellowship Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship in 2005. Ann has received numerous awards including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine-Project on Death in America Community Leadership in Palliative Care Award (2007), the Hastings Center Cunniff-Dixon Physician Award (2011), and the Heart of Hospice Lifetime Achievement Award from the Missouri Hospice & Palliative Care Association (2016).
A graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine, she practiced internal medicine and geriatrics in Kansas City, Kansas from 1981 until 1999, and began specializing in hospice and palliative medicine since 1998. Now retired, she continues to mentor clinicians in our field.
